Full plot (contains spoilers)

The film opens with Chris being wheeled into an operating room, then flashes back to the 1950s to show Jorge as a child undergoing lung surgery. In 2010, Chris meets Sam at college; they date and Sam meets his family. Meanwhile, Jorge meets Leslie, a flight attendant, and they marry despite his parents' objections. Chris and Sam eventually marry and have a son, while Jorge and Leslie are told they cannot have children. Jorge's health declines, and he requires an oxygen tank. Chris, who had registered as an organ donor, suddenly collapses and is declared braindead after suffering an aneurysm.
