In a devastated future, a man is sent through time to save humanity, only to discover the truth behind his mission.

The story

In the year 2067, Earth is ravaged by climate change, deforestation, and nuclear war. In the ruins of Australia, only one city survives using tainted synthetic oxygen that causes a deadly affliction known as 'The Sickness.' Ethan Whyte cares for his wife, Xanthe, who is suffering from the disease. When the Chronicorp CTO reveals that the Sickness will eventually wipe out humanity, Ethan is asked to travel into the future using a prototype time machine built by his late father. Despite his resentment toward his father, Ethan is eventually persuaded to embark on the journey to prevent human extinction.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In 2067, a climate-ravaged Australia is plagued by 'The Sickness' caused by tainted synthetic oxygen. Ethan Whyte, whose wife Xanthe is ill, is recruited by Regina Jackson, CTO of Chronicorp, to travel 400 years into the future via the 'Chronical' time machine to save humanity. Accompanied by his guardian Jude, Ethan arrives in a lush rainforest where he discovers his own corpse in a bunker. After realizing the machine is set to reactivate, they head to the Chronical lab. They learn that Ethan's father, Richard, had prepared the trip but was murdered by Jackson, who intended to use the machine to flee with a chosen few. As the reactor threatens a nuclear explosion, Ethan discovers Jude is actually a future version of himself (or a recording/manipulation) trying to stop him. Ethan learns Jackson's true plan: to send him forward to repair a power failure and then have him killed. In a final confrontation, Jude commits suicide. Ethan sends a recording of Richard's murder and plants into the past. This changes the timeline: in the past, Jackson is arrested, and in the future, the city is restored to a harmonious state.
