Three students at an Indian engineering college navigate the pressures of a rigid education system while forging a lifelong bond of friendship.
The story
Narrated through two parallel timelines, one in the present and the other set ten years earlier, the story follows the friendship of three students at an Indian engineering college. The film serves as a satire about the intrinsic paternalism under the Indian education system. At the Imperial College of Engineering, Ranchoddas "Rancho" Shamaldas Chanchad arrives as an academically gifted student, challenging professors with his unconventional beliefs. He befriends fellow engineering students Farhan Qureshi and Raju Rastogi. The narrative explores their journey through the rigors of their studies and the personal challenges they face while navigating a competitive academic environment.

The story follows three friends—Rancho, Farhan, and Raju—at an engineering college. Rancho is a brilliant student who challenges the status quo, while Farhan wants to pursue photography and Raju struggles with insecurity. Their lives are complicated by the strict rules of their director, Dr. Viru "Virus" Sahastrabuddhe. After a student's suicide, Rancho and Virus develop a rivalry. In the present, Chatur, a successful but different man, reunites with Farhan and Raju to find Rancho. They travel to Shimla and eventually to Ladakh. They discover that the man they knew as Rancho is actually Chhote, who is living under the name Phunsukh Wangdu. He is an inventor and teacher who believes in alternative education. The film concludes with the four of them celebrating their reunion and the truth of Rancho's identity.
