A young girl's life is shattered when she is abducted and held captive in a cellar for eight years.
The story
On the morning of 2 March 1998, 10-year-old Natascha Kampusch is kidnapped while walking to school and held in a cellar by 35-year-old technician Wolfgang Přiklopil. For the next four years, she is forbidden from leaving the cellar, enduring malnourishment, boredom, and psychological manipulation. While her captor appears socially isolated and unremarkable to the public, the police find nothing suspicious despite reports of a suspicious van. As the years pass, Natascha's situation evolves, and she must navigate the harrowing reality of her confinement while her mother remains consumed by guilt over the day of her daughter's disappearance.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After being kidnapped in 1998, 10-year-old Natascha Kampusch is held in a cellar by Wolfgang Přiklopil. For years, she is subjected to psychological manipulation and physical abuse. In 2003, she is renamed 'Vivi' and her hair is shaved to hide her identity from his mother. As the years progress, the abuse becomes more severe, and Natascha begins to document her ordeal on toilet paper. She learns through a radio report that six years have passed since her disappearance. She eventually attempts suicide by starting a fire but is met with violence from her captor. On her 18th birthday, while Wolfgang is distracted by a phone call, Natascha manages to escape through a gate. She seeks help from a neighbor and is reunited with her parents, while it is revealed that Wolfgang committed suicide immediately after her escape.
