The story revolves around six young delinquents—Nisse, Jingis, Egon, Pyret, Fisken, and Slaktarn—who roam the demolition areas of old Klara in Stockholm. The youths take part in a social experiment in free upbringing, an experiment that gets out of hand. An older man known as the Inspector and the young social worker Krister are in charge of the experiment. Krister and the youths live together in a dilapidated apartment called “Pensionatet Sakligheten.” Violence and contempt for society permeate their everyday lives, and the well-meaning Krister is often subjected to their humiliating acts.
