Full plot (contains spoilers)
Notary Kovac receives a letter from Dr. Ieronimus Hauff inviting him to come to his castle to draw up his will. When he arrives, the young lawyer discovers that the man has been dead for almost a year. Clio, Ieronimus’s wife, thinks it is a macabre joke, while Corinna, his stepdaughter, attributes it to her father’s supernatural powers, as he was a scholar of the occult. A series of chilling incidents and strange deaths seem to prove the girl right. Meanwhile, Kovac discovers that Morgan, his employer, is Clio’s lover and murdered Ieronimus with the help of some friends. Soon afterward, the first anniversary of Dr. Hauff’s death arrives, and on that occasion evil forces are unleashed, killing Morgan and Clio. Suddenly, all the clocks in the doctor’s collection, which had all stopped at the time of his death, start working again, and the chime of one of them sets off a nursery rhyme that suggests to Kovac and Corinna how they can save themselves. The secret lies in water. Rain enables the two of them to escape the forces of evil and leave the gloomy villa.
