The story
Dr. Henry Roth, a marine veterinarian at Sea Life Park Hawaii on Oahu, only dates tourists to avoid any serious commitments. One day, while waiting for the Coast Guard at the Hukilau Café, he encounters art teacher Lucy Whitmore. Despite the fact that she has no memory of their previous encounters, Henry attempts to navigate her daily routine and the restrictions imposed by her family to build a connection with her.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Dr. Henry Roth, a marine veterinarian on Oahu, avoids commitment by dating tourists until he meets art teacher Lucy Whitmore. Lucy suffers from Goldfield's syndrome, a form of anterograde amnesia where she forgets everything from the previous day after falling asleep. Her family maintains a charade of her life, and Henry must find ways to see her daily. He eventually devises a strategy using a video to help her process her condition and stay updated on her life, including her relationship with him. After a period of separation where she believes they have broken up, Henry discovers she has been painting portraits of him and they reconcile. The film ends with a revelation that she is pregnant, and they are shown together on a boat with her father and their daughter.
