An Indian-American doctor navigates cultural expectations and personal identity while introducing his white fiancé to his traditional family.

The story

Naveen, a shy Indian-American doctor, struggles to find a romantic connection while feeling his parents might be uncomfortable with his sexual orientation. While praying at a temple, he meets Jay, a white man who was adopted by Indian immigrant parents. The two become close and eventually move in together, despite tensions regarding Jay's bohemian lifestyle and Naveen's hesitation to introduce him to his family. When Naveen finally agrees to bring Jay home to meet his parents, Megha and Archit, and his sister Arundhathi, the couple faces the challenge of navigating cultural mores and family expectations.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After years of being pressured to marry, Naveen meets Jay, a white man adopted by Indian parents, and they begin a relationship. They move in together, but Naveen is hesitant to introduce Jay to his traditional family. During a meeting with Naveen's parents, Megha and Archit, and his sister Arundhathi, tensions arise due to Naveen's white lies about Jay and Jay's use of a marijuana pen. The situation escalates when Arundhathi reveals she is leaving her husband, leading Jay to move out. Naveen reconciles with Jay by proposing with a choreographed scene from the Bollywood film DDLJ. Despite initial reluctance, Archit eventually accepts Jay after spending time with him. The film concludes with a wedding where Naveen and Jay perform a dance for their family, and Megha delivers an emotional speech about her divorce.
