A family must navigate a world where silence is the only defense against blind, sound-sensitive extraterrestrial predators.
The story
Over a year after a deadly alien invasion, the Abbott family lives in a world where any noise can be fatal. The family, including a deaf daughter named Regan, must navigate a landscape populated by blind, armored creatures with an acute sense of hearing. After their home is destroyed, the surviving members of the family set out to find other survivors. They encounter a reclusive man in a soundproof bunker and must decide how to proceed in a world where the only way to survive is to remain silent.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Following the destruction of their home, the Abbott family—Evelyn, Regan, and Marcus—travel through a wasteland to find other survivors. They encounter Emmett, a recluse living in a soundproof bunker. Regan discovers that high-frequency audio can disrupt the aliens and believes she can use a radio tower on the nearby Norwalk Islands to broadcast this signal as a weapon. While Evelyn searches for supplies, Marcus is forced to hide from an alien in a small compartment. Emmett and Regan eventually reach the islands, where they find a small colony of survivors. A conflict arises when an alien reaches the island and attacks the colony. Simultaneously, Evelyn rescues Marcus and their baby from the bunker. In the climax, Regan and Emmett reach the radio station to broadcast the high-frequency signal, while Marcus uses a portable radio to weaken an alien in the bunker, allowing him to defeat it. The film ends with the signal being broadcast to help other survivors.
