The story
Gatsby Welles, a wealthy and eccentric student at Yardley College, travels to Manhattan with his girlfriend, Ashleigh Enright, who is there to interview an esteemed independent film director for their college newspaper. Gatsby hopes to deepen their relationship during a romantic weekend in his hometown while navigating a conflicted relationship with his parents, who are hosting a gala. However, Ashleigh's plans are disrupted when the director invites her to a private screening. Meanwhile, Gatsby finds himself in a series of chance encounters, including a request to stand in for an actor in a short film, leading to a series of romantic complications and delays.

Gatsby Welles, a wealthy student and gambler, accompanies his girlfriend Ashleigh to Manhattan for her interview with director Roland Pollard. Ashleigh is invited to a private screening, delaying her time with Gatsby. Gatsby encounters a film student and agrees to kiss a co-star, only to discover the actress is Chan Tyrell, a former girlfriend's sister. Feeling abandoned, Gatsby joins Chan for a rainy day in the city, visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Meanwhile, Ashleigh meets Ted Davidoff, Pollard's screenwriter, and later film star Francisco Vega. Gatsby, after winning a poker game, sees Ashleigh on the news with Francisco. Distraught, he hires an escort named Terry to impersonate Ashleigh at his parents' gala. During the gala, Gatsby's mother reveals she was an escort, changing his perception of her. Ashleigh eventually leaves Francisco's apartment after his girlfriend arrives. The next morning, Gatsby and Ashleigh realize their incompatibility during a carriage ride. Gatsby ends the relationship and later meets Chan in the rain at the Delacorte Clock, where they kiss.
