Melinda Moore and Robert begin a relationship after a series of volatile encounters, eventually marrying despite the objections of Melinda's sisters, June and Brenda. For eighteen years, Melinda supports Robert while he focuses on developing a revolutionary self-charging battery. When Robert begins interacting with Diana Wells, an assistant to a venture capitalist, Melinda discovers his continued infidelity. Enraged, Melinda rams Robert's RV, resulting in an emergency hysterectomy that leaves her infertile. After Melinda files for divorce, Robert moves in with Diana and eventually secures a multi-million-dollar deal for his technology. Although Robert attempts to apologize by buying back Melinda's home and giving her $10 million, Melinda remains hostile. She begins a campaign of harassment, including destroying Diana's wedding gown with acid. After being caught and sentenced to counseling, Melinda's mental state deteriorates further upon learning Diana is pregnant. On Robert and Diana's wedding day, Melinda's family prevents her from ruining the ceremony. Later, Melinda sneaks onto the couple's honeymoon cruise and shoots Robert. During a struggle, Robert accidentally triggers the anchor release, causing Melinda to become entangled in the chain and drown in the ocean.
