The story
Following a breakup, Hardin Scott encounters a homeless man while Tessa Young begins her first day as an intern at Vance Publishing. After an awkward encounter with a coworker named Trevor, Tessa is invited to a work event where she impresses a businessman. A night out leads to a tense confrontation between Tessa and Hardin, who eventually resume their physical relationship despite their mutual regrets. As Tessa navigates her new career path and personal life, she discovers deep-seated family secrets and faces the complexities of her ongoing, volatile connection with Hardin.

Hardin Scott and Tessa Young struggle to move on from their breakup. While Tessa starts an internship at Vance Publishing, she meets Trevor, a coworker who catches the attention of the company owner, Christian Vance. After a night of drinking and networking, Tessa and Hardin reunite in her hotel room, leading to a physical encounter followed by more fighting. Tessa later learns about Hardin's past trauma—he witnessed his mother being raped by men his father owed money to. On her birthday, Tessa discovers her mother turned away her long-lost father. Despite warnings from Trevor about Hardin's behavior, Tessa resumes the relationship. On Christmas, Hardin assaults his father, Ken, after a holiday party. When Vance offers Tessa a job in Seattle, the couple faces a rift fueled by misunderstandings at a university frat party. After a car accident caused by a phone call, Hardin tries to end things, but Trish convinces him to stay. They reconcile at Vance's farewell party, only for the homeless man from the beginning to reveal himself as Tessa's long-lost father.
