The story
Simon and Laura are best friends living in a world where a company called Soul Connex offers a test that claims to scientifically identify one's true soulmate. Although Simon is skeptical of the technology, he pays for Laura to take the test. When she is matched with a man named Lukas, she marries him, yet she and Simon remain close. As time passes, Simon struggles with his unspoken love for Laura while she begins to question aspects of her marriage and their relationship. The emotional tension between the two friends builds as they navigate the complexities of their bond and the reality of their circumstances.

Simon and Laura are best friends. Laura takes a test from Soul Connex that identifies true soulmates and is matched with Lukas, whom she marries and has a child with. Simon, who secretly loves Laura, remains her close friend while struggling to move on. As the emotional tension between them grows, they begin an affair. The conflict peaks when Simon asks Laura to leave her family to be with him; she refuses. Simon realizes he cannot live on intermittent stolen moments and walks away. They eventually have one final, bittersweet weekend together. Although Laura suggests moving to California with him, the gesture feels hollow. Simon acknowledges he will always miss her, and Laura leaves him in a cab without looking back.
