Full plot (contains spoilers)
Barbara Lucke was a works council representative at the Sander mail-order company for several decades. Shortly before her retirement, she is unexpectedly voted out and has to return to her old workplace as a clerk. The Lingerie and Bath department is now headed by her son Bastian, who wants to impress everyone with his modern management style. At first, both mother and son are overwhelmed by the situation. Barbara has to catch up on developments she has missed, such as video conferences, e-learning, and change management, and tries to pull strings according to the old rules. She enlists Bernd, for whom she got several things approved through the works council, and Marion, with whom she did her apprenticeship, to help her. Intern Amelie and forklift driver Mike also take a liking to Barbara and her stories. Yasemin, Bastian’s assistant, is displeased by this. She wants Barbara to face the challenges of the modern working world and complete refresher training. Bastian is caught between Yasemin and Barbara and wants to please everyone. He also wants to convince the company’s board with a proposal from his department. However, company management, led by managing director Dr. Jürgen Sander Jr., has already decided to close the Lingerie and Bath department. At the Fuck-Up Slam, where people share their own mistakes, Barbara admits that she reduced a product in the online catalog from €1,290 to €12, and it was sold 300 times. During the event, the new works council chair Roland Schmoll drunkenly lets slip to Barbara that the department is going to be closed. Barbara, like supervisory board chairman Dr. Jürgen Sander Sr., longs for the days when there was still a printed product catalog. She plans to bring back a catalog, but Bastian firmly rejects the idea, citing, among other things, the costs and environmental concerns, and the two have a fierce argument. During the argument, he tells his mother that he has fallen in love. Yasemin, who overheard them arguing, confesses to Bastian that she has fallen in love with him too. Yasemin and Bastian work together on the You Are Your Own Model (YAYOM) app, which inserts images of Sander clothing into customers’ own photos so they can check whether the clothes suit them before buying. Jürgen Sander Jr. offers Barbara a place on the works council if she provides negative information about the Lingerie and Bath department, which would allow its closure to be carried out more quickly. Separately, Jürgen Sander offers Bastian a similar deal. The app is to be developed even without the Lingerie and Bath department. Barbara rallies the department to fight together to save it and develop the app. With their app presentation, the department ultimately wins the Innovatation Day Call for Papers, and Barbara, as a content manager over 60, appears on camera in commercials for the app. Amid the chaos of the shoot, which Bastian is directing, he remarks to Yasemin: “They’re all nuts.”
