A people-pleasing psychotherapist faces mounting personal and professional demands as her mother’s 70th birthday approaches.
The story
On a hot summer’s day, psychotherapist Ina realizes that something is physically wrong after being under constant pressure for a long time. Her demanding patients take a toll, and her teenage daughter, Elli, threatens to move in with her father, Hannes, who regularly makes trouble for Ina. Ina’s boyfriend, Reto, is pressuring her to move to Finland, a choice that would mean giving up her career plans. With little hope of understanding from her self-focused mother, Ina faces her mother’s approaching 70th birthday and has no desire to sing the planned serenade.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
On a hot summer’s day, psychotherapist Ina realizes that something is physically wrong with her, because she has been under constant pressure for a long time. Ina always wants to please everyone. Her rather demanding patients take a lot out of her, and her teenage daughter, Elli, is threatening to move in with her father, Hannes. He also never misses an opportunity to make trouble for Ina. On top of all that, her boyfriend, Reto, is pressuring her to move to Finland, which would mean giving up all her career plans. Nor can Ina hope for any understanding from her mother, Tamara, who prefers to focus on herself. Now her mother’s 70th birthday is approaching. But Ina has absolutely no desire to sing the serenade she is supposed to perform for her that day. She loses it, but even after this outburst of emotion—because no one has noticed her—her family does not react as she had hoped.
