A minimalist technician and a reclusive collector must confront an apartment overflowing with belongings when water damage leaves them both in need of a solution.

The story

Fynn, a minimalist service technician who keeps all his belongings in a suitcase, is left without a place to stay when water damage affects his temporary apartment. The problem brings him into contact with Marlen, a solitary dental technician whose apartment below is packed with possessions, including objects tied to memories and items she has rescued from a recycling center. Fynn needs temporary shelter, while repairs to the water damage require access to Marlen’s home. She fears that the building manager will force her out if he sees the crowded apartment, so Fynn tries to persuade her to clear it within three days. Their conflicting needs make the task increasingly difficult.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Fynn is a minimalist-living service technician for bottle-return sorting machines. All his belongings (his target: no more than 100 items) fit into his suitcase. During a service call, water damage in his temporary apartment brings him into contact with Marlen, a dental technician who lives alone and keeps to herself in the apartment below. Her apartment, which she refuses to let anyone into, is so crammed with things—some tied to memories, others “rescued” from the recycling center—that it is barely possible to move around without knocking something over. A complicated conflict arises: Fynn cannot work without a place to stay and seeks temporary shelter in Marlen’s apartment, while the water damage there also requires repair work. Marlen, however, fears that the building manager will force her out immediately if he sees her apartment. Fynn gets into trouble at work because his jobs are delayed as he tries to convince Marlen that her apartment needs to be cleared out—and within three days. Although she recognizes this and apparently trusts him more than anyone else, the plan proves impossible to carry out. When the scheduled apartment inspection takes place, Marlen’s apartment turns out not to be any emptier, but instead arranged by color, giving her collection an appealing quality. On the other hand, grappling with the chaos in her apartment has given Fynn the crucial idea for repairing the machine. He completes the job and considers staying a little longer.
