Alter Kahn und junge Liebe (1973)

In Meersburg, auto mechanics Mark Tanner and his friend Ulli Specht outfit a sailboat called Bella Marie to take it down the Rhine to Amsterdam for a managing director. On their way to Meersburg, they pick up blonde tour guide Petra Hauser at the roadside; she is accompanying a bus tour from Meersburg to Amsterdam. A stray dog and Elke Steubels, a skipper’s daughter, join the boat’s travelers as well. The boat-delivery crew and the bus tour guide subsequently keep running into each other in Meersburg and at the Rhine ports. The boat journey passes the castles along the Rhine and offers a view of the Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen when the water is running high. The highlight of the trip is a wine festival hosted by vintner Jupp König. When the singers who had been booked cancel at short notice, Mark Tanner, little Anita, and Jupp König himself naturally step in to perform the songs. There is more than mere sympathy between Mark and Petra, but they only get together after Petra has rejected her pushy suitor Rob and then becomes jealous of Elke herself, while Elke pairs up with Ulli. In Amsterdam, the boat’s crew learns that the vessel is to be taken back to Lake Constance. For Mark and Petra, this is a welcome opportunity to make the return journey together.
