Alter schützt vor Liebe nicht (1990)

On his 65th birthday, newly retired Otto is annoyed by the many relatives and friends who have turned up. After enduring plenty of people telling him what to do, he is eventually pressured into introducing his new girlfriend Clara to everyone, having bragged about her. In short, Otto sets off to bring her to the party. Clara owns an arts and crafts shop and, up to that point, knows Otto only as a customer, since he has made several purchases from her. His personal interest in her has not escaped her notice, however, and she also finds Otto attractive. Before long, they confess their feelings for each other, and Clara accompanies Otto to his party. Once there, though, the newly enamored couple cannot find a moment of peace—let alone any privacy. Otto’s family in particular shows little understanding or sensitivity toward him and is visibly overwhelmed by the new situation. So Clara and Otto make their escape in search of somewhere quieter, which proves far from easy and, as events unfold, turns into a veritable odyssey.
