The story
In 2011, the recovery of the submarine U-864 from a Norwegian fjord catches the attention of eighty-five-year-old Ellen Ludwig. She persuades her granddaughter to drive her to Oslo, and the journey brings back memories of 1944, when young Ellen believed peace had to come at last. She joins a small resistance group opposing the Hitler regime and, after a botched operation, meets Robert, a doctor who reveals that he works for British intelligence. He is focused on U-864 and its secret mission, and asks Ellen to spy on Hans, a newly engaged naval officer and engineer serving aboard the submarine.
