Full plot (contains spoilers)

Star journalist Thomas Bongart learns that, because of his cancer, he has only a short time left to live. His girlfriend Lena hears the terrible diagnosis and decides that, if he has to die, she wants to end her life together with him. The journalist begins to raise his remaining funds by selling the story of the time he has left to a sensation-hungry mass-circulation magazine. With Lena, he sets out on his final journey from Munich via Vienna to their destination, the Italian metropolis of Venice. Pursued by reporters and photographers who would love to be right there with their camera lenses for every moment Bongart still has on Earth, the fleeing couple increasingly find themselves in crisis situations. In terms of its content, the production brings to mind Bertrand Tavernier’s science-fiction crime film Death Watch, which was released a year before this melodrama was produced.
