The story
Rome, during the years of the 1968 protest movement: Carlo, a politically engaged architecture student, is nearing graduation and expects to marry Elena Soriani, daughter of a wealthy industrialist. At a party he meets Anna, an older woman who works in public relations at Elena’s family company, and becomes fascinated by her. When Anna later saves him from the police during a demonstration, she invites him to her home. Their attraction develops into an intense relationship, pulling Carlo away from the future he had planned. Anna, in turn, becomes so absorbed in the romance that she leaves her job and spends her money, while concealing her growing financial difficulties from him.

Rome. During the years of the 1968 protest movement, Carlo, a politically engaged architecture student, is close to graduating and marrying Elena Soriani, the daughter of a wealthy industrialist. At a party, he meets Anna, a captivating woman older than him who works in public relations at Soriani’s company, and is fascinated by her. A few days after their meeting, Anna saves him from the police during a demonstration and invites him to her home. The two begin an intense relationship, and Anna is so swept up in it that she eventually quits her job and spends all her money. Rather than tell Carlo about her financial troubles, she decides to turn to prostitution. Carlo’s brother visits her and asks her to end the relationship. Reluctantly, Anna is persuaded, and to drive Carlo away she makes sure he finds her in Soriani’s company. The young man then leaves her and decides to marry Elena and go to work at his future father-in-law’s company. Some time later, he learns the truth about what happened. He looks for Anna and begs her to come back to him, but she refuses.
