Full plot (contains spoilers)

In 1975, Ron Burgundy is a prominent news anchor at KVWN Channel 4 in San Diego. After a successful period, the station hires Veronica Corningstone as a co-anchor. A brief, ill-fated romance between Ron and Veronica leads to a professional rivalry where they become fierce competitors. The tension escalates during a physical confrontation and a public feud with a rival news team, Wes Mantooth. After a series of mishaps—including a public relations disaster where Ron ends a broadcast with an insult to the city—Ron is fired and becomes a social pariah. However, when a crisis occurs at a local zoo involving a panda and a bear, Ron is rehired to help rescue Veronica. The two reconcile during the rescue, and the film concludes with a montage showing the future success of the news team members, with Ron and Veronica becoming co-anchors for a national news network.
