Full plot (contains spoilers)

The gunfighter Roy Greenford escapes from a U.S. penal colony with Emiliano, a Mexican rebel who dies during their escape. Following Emiliano’s advice, Roy reaches Emiliano’s village of origin and discovers that it is inhabited by miners exploited and extorted by Redfield, Lawrence, and Newman, three men who have built an apparently unassailable system of control. Aided by old Joselito, who nurses him back to health, Roy resolves to take action to free the miners from slavery. Faced with the overwhelming imbalance of forces, he decides to use his wits and cleverly manages to get hired by Redfield, who intends to eliminate his two partners. In this undertaking, besides Joselito, Roy can count only on the support of the town’s elderly telegraph operator and Jessica, a Mexican woman who was kidnapped and has become something of a sex object in the hands of the three men. After recovering some of the gold, the gunfighter is discovered and captured by Redfield’s men. Redfield is now the town’s sole master, after his two partners have been eliminated. Brutally tortured, Roy is freed by Jessica, who seduces the guard Chris to get his keys. Hidden away and cared for by Joselito, Roy recovers, takes out the bullies, and returns the gold to the miners, urging them to defend their own freedom.
