The story
Young foster child Roger Bowman and his friend, J.P., enjoy sneaking into the baseball games of the California Angels. Still in limited contact with his widowed father, Roger asks when they will be a family again. Taking his father's sarcastic remark literally, Roger prays for God to help the Angels win. After he prays, he begins to see a group of angels led by Al helping the team. Roger's unique ability to see these celestial helpers leads the skeptical manager, George "Skip" Knox, to keep the boy around as a consultant. As the team begins a surprising winning surge, Roger faces personal turmoil regarding his father's custody.
