The story

In a distant future ruled by intelligent apes, researchers study an old film documenting the uncivilized behavior of humans in 1980s Rome.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In the year 3300, the human race has been replaced by a new species of apes endowed with considerable intelligence. A group of researchers among them finds an old film from 1987 in which three human researchers (two men and a woman) explain the possible causes that led to the present-day mutation. As the film is watched, the researchers can be seen filming and documenting various real-life episodes in 1980s Rome, in order to learn firsthand about the causes driving humanity toward an unhealthy way of life. These episodes involve brutality, rudeness, opportunism, and uncivilized behavior. At the end of their report, the researchers themselves will, in a sense, be “infected” by the city’s inhabitants’ uncivil manners, after escaping a series of misadventures as they set off on their journey back.
