A high-class prostitute’s discovery of a dead pimp entangles a police inspector in a case threatening to expose the Ruhr region’s most prominent men.

The story

Anita Drögemöller is a high-class prostitute whose clients include the male elite of the Ruhr region. Her life takes a dangerous turn when she discovers a pimp dead in her bathroom, his neck broken. Whether his death was an accident or murder is unclear, and suspicion falls amid rivalries involving a competing brothel owner and a jealous regular client. The case is especially sensitive because the Vice President of the United States is in Bonn and has arranged a meeting with Anita. Chief Inspector Langensiepen must investigate while protecting prominent clients from exposure, but powerful opponents work to obstruct him.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The blonde, seductive, and beautiful Anita Drögemöller works as a high-class prostitute in the city. Her clientele consists of the male elite of the Ruhr region. One day, she discovers a pimp in her bathroom—with a broken neck. Was it an accident, drowned in a drunken stupor? Or was it murder after all? What role does the rival brothel owner play, and what about Anita’s jealous regular client? These questions are all the more explosive because the Vice President of the United States is in Bonn and has arranged a tryst with the beautiful Anita. It becomes an extremely delicate assignment for Chief Inspector Langensiepen. He must make sure the city’s most prominent clients are not exposed while he tries to investigate the murky world of prostitution, blackmail, and murder. But powerful opponents seem intent on putting obstacles in his way. A flashback traces the stages of Anita’s life. Before she became a call girl and slipped into the “underworld,” she had her first lesbian experiences and was sent to a reform school, where she was raped. Eventually, she ended up on the street and worked for a while as a waitress at the “Alte Wache” pub. Her career got a considerable boost when the woman from Essen became the region’s most sought-after high-class prostitute. Before long, she was drawn into a vortex of corruption, espionage, and blackmail—not to mention the corpse in the bathtub—and peace on the Ruhr was a thing of the past.
