Full plot (contains spoilers)
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, during World War II. The Jewish people living there were terrified of the “anti-Jewish policies (the rounding up of Jews),” which could come at any time. One day, the Frank family—one of these families—received a “summons,” including thirteen-year-old Anne. Anne’s father, Otto Frank, had anticipated that day and had prepared a “hiding place” in advance, so he took his family there to live. It was an attic in an office building. Even amid the harsh life of holding their breath during the daytime, when others might see them, Anne managed to keep her bright spirit by writing her hopes in the diary her parents had given her. But the hiding place was discovered, and they were taken away. Everyone except Otto would die in the camps.
