A petty criminal must team up with a brilliant scientist to protect high-tech shrinking technology from falling into the wrong hands.

The story

In the present day, scientist Hank Pym is forced out of his company by his estranged daughter, Hope van Dyne, and his former protégé, Darren Cross. Cross is attempting to perfect a dangerous shrinking suit of his own. Meanwhile, a well-meaning thief named Scott Lang, recently released from prison, finds himself in possession of Pym's original Ant-Man suit. After accidentally shrinking himself, Lang is recruited by Pym to become the new Ant-Man. Together with Hope, Lang must learn to control the suit's powers and navigate a high-stakes heist to steal Cross's technology before it can be used for nefarious purposes.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In 1989, scientist Hank Pym hid his shrinking technology from S.H.I.E.L.D. In the present, his estranged daughter Hope and former protégé Darren Cross have forced him out of Pym Technologies. Cross is perfecting the Yellowjacket suit. Scott Lang, a petty thief recently released from prison, finds Pym's Ant-Man suit during a heist and accidentally shrinks himself. Pym recruits Lang to become the new Ant-Man to steal the Yellowjacket from Cross. While Hope and Pym train Lang to control ants and use the suit, they also reveal that Pym's wife, the Wasp, disappeared into the Quantum Realm in 1987. During a heist at Pym Technologies, Lang, Pym, and Hope are captured by Cross, who intends to sell the technology to Hydra. Lang escapes and, during a confrontation with Cross, uses the suit to shrink to a subatomic level to sabotage the Yellowjacket. This causes the suit to malfunction, seemingly killing Cross. Lang is then transported into the Quantum Realm but manages to return to the macroscopic world. He is later cleared of his crimes by officer Jim Paxton. The film concludes with Pym showing Hope a new Wasp prototype, and a post-credits scene featuring Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson.
