Hotel Black Steed in St. Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut. Student Eva unexpectedly inherits a hotel on Lake Wolfgang from her late uncle. She immediately travels to the Salzkammergut with her friend Maxi in Maxi’s rickety VW Beetle. But to the friends’ great disappointment, the Palace Hotel turns out to be an uninhabitable wreck. Only Zacherl, a former hotel servant, and his horse Murli still live there. When Eva also learns that she has inherited a mountain of debt along with the old hotel, she is desperate. However, Zacherl and Maxi persuade Eva to renovate the hotel with a few friends and reopen it, so they can get a higher sale price and pay off the inherited debts. To attract paying guests, Zacherl uses a trick to lure a group of travelers into the building, now called the Black Steed. After a boating accident that ends without serious harm, Eva meets Martin, a handsome doctor who, unbeknownst to her, actively helps fill the Black Steed with guests. But when she discovers that Martin is the brother of the manager of the rival White Steed hotel, she believes he has only ingratiated himself with her in order to drive her hotel into ruin. Bitterly disappointed, Eva wants to sell the hotel to a bank immediately, but Martin comes up with another idea. In the end, Eva and Martin get married, and the hotel is saved too. Maxi and Jürgen also get together.
