Thirteen years after the Hundred Year War, Aang and his friends are establishing Republic City. During a visit to the Southern Air Temple, Aang is ambushed by the Denied, who steal a map to a legendary airbending staff. Aang learns that the staff belonged to a forgotten Avatar, Sonam, and could grant others the power to airbend. He joins forces with Sokka, Toph, and Fire Lord Zuko to find the staff at Mount Baihu. They meet Tagah, an ancient airbender who leads them to a hidden island. During the journey, the Denied attack their airship; Tagah's ruthless tactics cause tension, and Katara urges Aang to abandon the mission, but he persists. On the island, Aang retrieves the staff, but Tagah betrays the group, intending to establish Air Nomad supremacy. After a battle where Katara saves the group from Tagah's attack, Aang confronts Tagah in Republic City. Aang enters a corrupted Avatar State but ultimately destroys the staff, stripping the Denied of their powers and causing Tagah to fade away. In the aftermath, Aang establishes a new Air Temple and finds hope for the future of his culture among a new generation of Air Acolytes.
