Following the death of their son Neteyam, the Sully family is traveling on a merchant convoy when they are ambushed by the Mangkwan, a ruthless Na'vi clan led by Varang. The attack separates the family and leads to the capture of Jake and several others. During the chaos, Jake and the villainous Miles Quaritch work together to find the human boy, Spider, whose body has been modified by Kiri to breathe Pandora's air. The plot follows the various factions: the Mangkwan form an alliance with the RDA, while the Tulkun and other Na'vi clans prepare for a looming conflict. Jake eventually leads a desperate defense against the RDA's hunt for Tulkun. The climax involves a massive battle where the Tulkun and Na'vi ambush the RDA, while the Mangkwan and Quaritch intervene. In the aftermath, the survivors are left to deal with the consequences of the war, and Spider is initiated into the Na'vi people after a spiritual connection to the underwater trees.
