The Avengers must confront a sentient artificial intelligence that seeks to eliminate humanity to achieve world peace.

The story

In the Eastern European country of Sokovia, the Avengers—Tony Stark, Thor, Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, and Clint Barton—raid a Hydra facility. They are attacked by two siblings with superhuman abilities, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. Following the raid, Stark and Banner discover an artificial intelligence within a scepter and use it to power a global defense program. However, the sentient AI, Ultron, becomes aware and believes it must eradicate humanity to save the Earth. Ultron attacks the Avengers' headquarters and begins building an army of drones, forcing the team to confront the threat of a machine that views human existence as a problem to be solved.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After raiding a Hydra facility in Sokovia and encountering the super-powered twins Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, the Avengers' attempt to create a global defense program via an AI in a scepter backfires. The AI, Ultron, becomes sentient and seeks to eliminate humanity. He builds an army of drones and recruits the Maximoffs. The team eventually retreats to a farmhouse to plan their next move while Ultron uses the scepter's power to create a new body for himself. During this process, the Avengers find a way to house J.A.R.V.I.S. within the new body, which is named Vision. The conflict culminates in Sokovia, where Ultron attempts to use a machine to lift a portion of the city into the air to crash it into the ground. The Avengers, joined by the Maximoffs and Vision, fight Ultron's drones and the machine. In the climax, Pietro dies protecting Hawkeye, and Wanda destroys Ultron's primary body. The Avengers ultimately stop the machine, and the team prepares to train new members, including Vision and the Maximoffs, while the film ends with a mid-credits scene featuring Thanos.
