The story
Joseph "Jody" Summers, a 20-year-old bike mechanic living in South Central Los Angeles, faces personal turmoil regarding his commitment to his girlfriend, Yvette. After a heated argument at an abortion clinic, Jody continues to lead a selfish life, frequently cheating on Yvette and avoiding responsibility for their future. Tensions escalate when Yvette is confronted with Jody's affairs and eventually kicks him out. Meanwhile, Jody moves back in with his mother, Juanita, where he finds himself in a volatile living situation with her new boyfriend, an ex-convict named Melvin.

Joseph "Jody" Summers is a 20-year-old bike mechanic in South Central Los Angeles who struggles with maturity and commitment. After a confrontation with his girlfriend Yvette at an abortion clinic, Jody continues to cheat on her with various women, including a girl named Peanut, with whom he has a daughter. Eventually, Yvette discovers his infidelity and kicks him out. Yvette then reconnects with her gangster ex-boyfriend, Rodney, who is released from prison. Rodney moves in with Yvette but shows no interest in her son, JoJo, and attempts to rape Yvette before stopping out of guilt. Jody moves in with his mother, Juanita, but clashes with her new boyfriend, Melvin, an ex-convict. After a series of violent arguments and a confrontation over marijuana, Jody leaves to see his friend Sweetpea. Yvette eventually reconciles with Jody after learning of Rodney's attempted assault. Rodney then steals Yvette's car and attempts to kill Jody in a drive-by shooting. Jody and Sweetpea confront Rodney; Jody shoots him in the legs, and Sweetpea ultimately kills him. Horrified, Jody nearly commits suicide but is stopped by Melvin. Jody eventually decides to move in with Yvette, accepts his mother's relationship with Melvin, and marries Yvette. Sweetpea decides to get baptized and leave his criminal life behind.
