Detectives Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey must navigate a complex web of drug trafficking and mafia ties in Miami.

The story

Eight years after taking down Fouchet, Miami PD detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are investigating the trafficking of MDMA in Miami. During an investigation into a Ku Klux Klan meeting, they discover the group is buying drugs rather than distributing them. A radio malfunction leads to a shootout with the Klansmen, during which Mike inadvertently shoots Marcus in the buttocks. These antics cause Marcus to doubt their partnership, especially as he learns Mike is secretly dating Marcus's younger sister, Syd, who is actually working undercover for the DEA as a money launderer for the Russian mafia.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Eight years after taking down Fouchet, Miami PD detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett investigate MDMA trafficking in Miami. They discover a Ku Klux Klan group is buying drugs, leading to a shootout where Mike accidentally shoots Marcus in the buttocks. Marcus becomes wary of Mike, who is secretly dating Marcus's sister, Syd. Syd is actually an undercover DEA agent laundering money for the Russian mafia, who distribute drugs for baron Hector Juan Carlos "Johnny" Tapia. After a massive gun battle and car chase involving a Haitian American Zoe Pound gang, the detectives track Tapia to a local mortuary used as a front for smuggling drugs and money. They pose as pest exterminators to gather intel while Tapia strong-arms the Russian Mafia kingpin Alexei into giving him control of Florida nightclubs. After a bank battle and infiltrating the mortuary, the detectives secure evidence for a joint raid with the DEA and U.S. Coast Guard. Tapia flees to Cuba with Syd as a hostage. Mike and Marcus form a black-ops team with the DEA, TNT, and CIA contacts to rescue her. They raid Tapia's estate, kill Alexei, and rescue Syd. They escape in a yellow Hummer H2, pursued by Cuban military forces. After a confrontation near Guantanamo Bay, Marcus kills Tapia with a headshot. The film ends with Marcus and Mike celebrating at a barbecue, with Marcus choosing to remain partners with Mike.
