A Berlin detective pursuing a gang hides in a coffin and is swept into a cross-Europe funeral-transport run.

The story

While pursuing a gang, ambitious Berlin police detective Ulla stumbles into a shabby travel agency run by Feti, a Bosnian, and Zoki, a Serb. Behind the agency, they illegally transport deceased compatriots to the Balkans for burial. Ulla throws a gangster’s sister’s body out of its coffin and climbs in herself, ending up in the cargo area of the pair’s station wagon as they set out across Europe. Their clients pursue them, angered and vowing revenge after the original body is found by police; the police, in turn, pursue the gangsters.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

While on the trail of a gang, Ulla, a young and ambitious Berlin police detective, finds her way into the run-down travel agency run by Feti, a Bosnian, and Zoki, a Serb. Under this cover, the two are actually in a completely different line of business: they illegally and cheaply transport the bodies of deceased compatriots to the Balkans. Ulla promptly throws the sister of a gangster out of her coffin and climbs inside herself. This lands her in the cargo area of a station wagon, in which Feti and Zoki set off across Europe for the planned funeral. They are pursued by their clients, who feel cheated and have sworn revenge: the original corpse was discovered by the police, who are now pursuing the gangsters in turn. When Ulla is to be smuggled across the border as a drunken corpse on the car’s back seat, she “suddenly comes back to life” and takes the initiative. The three main characters, Feti, Zoki, and Ulla, must then deal not only with their pursuers and customs officers at various border crossings, but also sort out their relationships with one another and decide what to do next. Zoki falls in love with Ulla, who initially presents herself as a traveler but is soon exposed as a police officer. Feti would much rather have Ulla as a real corpse in the coffin, which is urgently needed to carry out the job. Ulla tries to contact her colleagues and call in GSG 9 at their destination. Eventually, the funeral takes place in Bosnia, accompanied by a wild shootout. In the final shot, Ulla is pregnant and driving a corpse across the border for Zoki.
