Three brothers from a troubled Paris suburb face different futures as the youngest looks to his older siblings for direction.

The story

The Traoré family’s three brothers grow up in the Bois-l'Abbé housing estate, in a troubled suburb of Paris, where their mother raises them alone. Demba, the eldest, is a repeat offender whose life revolves around street life and drug dealing, making him a role model to 15-year-old Noumouké, who has yet to decide which brother to follow. Their middle brother, Soulaymaan, has taken a very different path: he is a trainee lawyer in Paris and excels in his studies. As he prepares for a public-speaking competition, he meets Lisa, a brilliant and impeccably behaved young woman with whom he seems entirely at odds.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The Traoré family has three brothers, all from a troubled Paris suburb, in the Bois-l'Abbé housing estate, which straddles the municipalities of Chennevières-sur-Marne and Champigny-sur-Marne. Their mother is raising her three sons alone. Demba, the eldest, is a repeat offender who lives by the rhythm of street life and drug dealing. He is a role model for the youngest, 15-year-old Noumouké, who is still trying to find his way and must choose which of his two older brothers he wants to be like. The middle brother, Soulaymaan, is a trainee lawyer in Paris who is excelling in his studies. Having entered the petite conférence, he crosses paths with Lisa, a brilliant and impeccably behaved young woman with whom he seems entirely at odds. During the final of a famous public-speaking competition held as part of his training, he debates with her the state’s responsibility for the situation in France’s suburbs. Soulaymaan’s brothers are in the audience, and he is going to impress them all.
