A wealthy man on probation takes a psychiatric patient home for his brother's wedding, leading to an unexpected journey of escape and connection.

The story

Jay Wheeler, the 'black sheep' of a wealthy family, works as a janitor at a Los Angeles psychiatric hospital as part of his probation. One night, he intervenes to protect a patient named Daisy Kensington from a predatory coworker. Rather than returning her to the facility, Jay decides to bring Daisy home to New Orleans for his brother's wedding, hoping to convince his family that he has reformed his life. However, the situation becomes complicated when Daisy reveals she was admitted for killing her mother, and Jay's father begins to suspect the truth.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Jay Wheeler, a wealthy man on probation, works as a janitor at a psychiatric hospital where he rescues Daisy Kensington, a woman raised in isolation. He takes her to New Orleans for his brother's wedding to prove his reformation. When his father suspects Daisy's history—specifically her claim of killing her mother—Jay reveals he is actually there to pay off a loan shark. The pair flees in his father's vintage RV, evading a police officer and a loan shark's goons. During the journey, Daisy crashes the RV after learning Dr. Bertleman intends to return her to the hospital. After being detained by police, Jay is bailed out by his mother. He later discovers the loan shark has trashed his apartment. Jay intentionally gets himself admitted to the psychiatric hospital to find Daisy. After being harassed by a goon, he is eventually released by Dr. Bertleman, who confirms Daisy's mother was actually the one with schizophrenia. Jay receives a $40,000 check from his father to clear his debts and reunites with Daisy at the hospital entrance.
