The story
Four years after Anna Pichler and Bogdan separated, Bogdan reappears in Anna’s life, upsetting the everyday routines she shares with her mother, Ilse, and grandmother, Burgi. Anna has meanwhile become friends with Gerhard, and the two run a business catering to holiday guests. Her uncle Xaver, who had opposed Anna’s relationship with Bogdan in the past, schemes against him again. Anna and Xaver’s mother nevertheless stand by Bogdan. His return forces Anna to reckon with her existing friendships, work and home as she considers what a renewed relationship might mean.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Four years have passed since Anna Pichler and Bogdan separated. Now Bogdan reappears, turning the everyday lives of Anna, her mother Ilse, and her grandmother Burgi upside down. Anna is unsettled, since she has meanwhile become friends with Gerhard and runs a business catering to holiday guests together with him. Her uncle Xaver, who had disapproved of Anna’s relationship with a Bosnian even back then, schemes against Bogdan again. But both Anna and Xaver’s mother stand by him. Yet the lovers part ways once more: Bogdan returns to Geneva because he does not want to give up his job as an interpreter at the United Nations—just as Anna is unwilling to leave the mountain farm and her work as a farmer to start a new life with Bogdan.
