A ministry forester tasked with securing land for a national park falls for the private forest’s owner while concealing his assignment.
The story
Yascha Krüger is a qualified forester working at a ministry in Munich, where he is asked to congratulate a forest ranger on a service anniversary. When the ranger suffers a medical emergency, Yascha reluctantly takes over a school forest tour. His ministry superior then asks him to fill in for the sick forester and identify the owner of a private forest, which the ministry hopes to acquire for a national park. Yascha meets Mats Stein, a freelance photographer vacationing in a forest cabin, and discovers that Mats owns the land. Mistaking Yascha for a teacher, Mats is not corrected, and Yascha conceals his real job and assignment as they grow closer.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Yascha Krüger is a qualified forester, but works at the ministry in Munich. He is a gay single man, but often scares off potential partners on their very first date. When he visits Werner Prunks, the forester of the Freising Forest, on behalf of the ministry to congratulate him on his service anniversary, Werner suffers a medical emergency and has to go to the hospital. When teacher Inga Leitner arrives with a school class and asks Yascha to take over an arranged forest tour in the forester’s place, he reluctantly agrees. In the forest, a cyclist looking for his dachshund brakes in front of him and splashes him with mud. Back at the ministry, his superior, Anke Hofmann, explains that they want to persuade the owner of a private forest to sell it so that they can establish a national park together with the surrounding forest. She asks Yascha to fill in for the sick forester and also find out who owns the private forest. During a visit to his two friends, Holger Petri and Mirko Zumdeik, who are also gay, have been a couple for a long time, and run a flower shop together, they give their good friend dating advice so that Yascha can finally find a relationship and be happy. At a beer garden, Yascha runs into the cyclist from the forest again. The man introduces himself as Mats Stein, a freelance photographer. Although he actually lives in Munich, he is currently vacationing in a cabin in the forest. Yascha soon realizes that Mats owns the forest. When Mats mistakes him for a teacher because of the school class Yascha took into the forest, Yascha does not correct him and tells him neither about his assignment nor that he actually works at the ministry. The two men keep meeting and slowly fall in love. Although Yascha tries several times to tell Mats the truth about his job and his assignment, something always gets in the way. The secret is made harder to keep not only by the forestry workers Harry, Leonie, and Cedric, whom Yascha regularly has to deal with, but also by his mother, Pari, who suddenly turns up. When Holger also arrives, having had an argument with his partner Mirko because, even after all the years they have been together, Mirko still cannot stand up for Holger in front of his parents, Yascha’s situation becomes increasingly complicated. Finally, Mats discovers the lie and leaves Yascha, disappointed. But there is good news for Holger. When Mirko suddenly shows up to apologize and promise that from now on he will always stand up for Holger in front of his parents, Holger is happy again. When Mirko even proposes to him, Holger immediately says yes. Mats also attends Holger and Mirko’s wedding celebration, where Yascha and Mats finally talk things through.
