Lydia Deetz hosts a paranormal talk show and is estranged from her daughter Astrid, who doubts her mother's psychic abilities. While filming, Lydia sees a vision of Betelgeuse. The pair later travel to Winter River where Lydia's stepmother Delia reveals her father's death. At a funeral, Lydia's boyfriend Rory pressures her into a wedding. Meanwhile, Astrid befriends Jeremy, a ghost who leads her into the afterlife. Betelgeuse, running a call center in the Netherworld, is being hunted by his ex-wife Delores. When Astrid discovers Jeremy's true intent to use her to live again, Lydia summons Betelgeuse for help. In the Netherworld, Delia is later separated from Lydia and summoned by Betelgeuse.
