Full plot (contains spoilers)
A weekend in the Alps. Twenty-five-year-old actor Hannes unexpectedly runs into his father at the family’s mountain lodge, though they have had no contact for eight years. But the aging theater director seems to have changed under the influence of his young girlfriend, Lavinia, and Hannes gets to know his father from a new perspective. Hannes’s girlfriend Ann also tries to see beyond the surface of the strained father-son relationship, hoping to find the key to their own relationship problems. But the path toward a new, cautious closeness pushes all four of them to their limits and soon confronts them with their inner abysses. The film’s central theme is the mechanisms and effects of psychological abuse in the parent-child relationship, particularly its impact on the victim’s later romantic relationships. While public perception tends to associate abuse above all with physical assaults, psychology considers the effects of harm caused by psychological abuse to be no less severe.
