A dialogue-free portrait strings together a day of everyday life in modern Berlin.
The story
This documentary offers a contemporary tribute to modern Berlin, taking the shape of a day-in-the-city portrait rather than a dialogue-led story. It moves among subways, e-scooters and bicycle couriers, as well as people in parks, high-rises, trailer parks, pubs and demonstrations. These everyday scenes are arranged in sequences that shift between brisk movement and calmer stretches, observing the varied rhythms of the city without spoken dialogue.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The documentary film—a contemporary tribute to modern Berlin—was inspired by Walther Ruttmann’s 1927 film classic Berlin: Symphony of a Metropolis. It documents a day in modern Berlin, but without spoken dialogue: it shows subways, e-scooters, bicycle couriers, people in parks, high-rises, trailer parks, pubs, and demonstrations. Everyday scenes are strung together in sequences that vary between fast-paced and calm.
