A Detroit detective travels to Beverly Hills to investigate a series of cryptic robberies and a targeted shooting.

The story

Set two years after the original film, Detroit police detective Axel Foley travels to Beverly Hills to investigate the shooting of Captain Andrew Bogomil. He reunites with Beverly Hills detectives Billy Rosewood and John Taggart to track down the perpetrators behind a series of "Alphabet" robberies. The investigation leads them to a local gun club where Foley encounters a ruthless criminal gang led by Karla Fry. As the detectives work to stop the heist, they must navigate a web of corruption and high-stakes crime involving a businessman named Maxwell Dent who is using the robberies to fund a massive weapons deal.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In Beverly Hills, a criminal gang led by Karla Fry carries out a jewelry store robbery, leaving a cryptic 'A' code. Captain Andrew Bogomil is shot by Fry and suspended by the egotistical Chief Harold Lutz. Detroit detective Axel Foley arrives to help Rosewood and Taggart investigate. Foley identifies Fry and discovers that businessman Maxwell Dent is using the 'Alphabet' robberies to fund a weapons deal. After foiling a heist at the city depository and a pursuit in a cement mixer, Foley realizes Dent is framing a manager named Charles Cain. Foley discovers Dent intends to sell weapons in Central America. In a final shootout at an oil field, Foley, Rosewood, and Taggart destroy the weapon trucks. Foley shoots Dent dead, and Fry is killed by Taggart. Lutz is dismissed by the Mayor for his incompetence, and Bogomil is appointed the new police chief. Foley is ordered back to Detroit by Inspector Todd.
