Billy Kuckuck - Eine gute Mutter (2019)

Billy Kuckuck is a bailiff in Mainz. During an enforcement action, a little boy steals her bag containing documents, identification papers and cash while she is momentarily distracted. As the story unfolds, the boy turns out to be a responsible member of his family, helping his intellectually disabled mother in her everyday life. Later, the youth welfare office plans to take him away from his mother and place him in a youth home because it does not believe she is capable of raising her child properly. This is where Billy Kuckuck comes back into the picture, since the mother has failed to pay a bill. At this point, the bailiff realizes that the boy’s mother can neither read nor write properly, let alone manage money. With his mother’s help, Billy hides the boy from the youth welfare office and even takes part in his birthday party, against the rules. Against her supervisor’s wishes, Billy intervenes in the court proceedings and manages to enter the hearing before the family court judge responsible for the case and address the court. A representative of the youth welfare office is also present. In the end, her partly illegal actions succeed: the judge rules that the boy may stay with his mother.
