Full plot (contains spoilers)
Elwood Blues is released from prison after eighteen years and learns his brother Jake has died. He meets Matara, who helps him find his old friend Mother Mary Stigmata. She reveals that Elwood's father figure, Curtis, died and fathered a son, Cabel Chamberlain, who is now an Illinois State Police commander. Elwood tracks Cabel down to recruit him for his plan to reform The Blues Brothers Band. Cabel refuses and throws Elwood out, but Elwood manages to steal Cabel's wallet. Elwood and a young boy named Buster begin recruiting former band members, including Willie Hall, "Mighty" Mack McTeer, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, and others. The newly reformed band is booked for a show but is pursued by Cabel and the police. During their journey, they encounter a militia group and a tent revival where Cabel has an epiphany and joins the band. The group then auditions for a Battle of the Bands hosted by Queen Mousette, a voodoo witch who turns the band into statues. After the spell is broken, they face off against the Louisiana Gator Boys. Following the battle, the Russian mafia and militia appear, and Queen Mousette turns them into rats. Cabel informs the police he is okay, and Elwood uses a final performance as cover to say goodbye to Cabel and Mack before escaping with Buster.
