A bride’s wedding-day flight with her lover sets a doomed love story in motion, told through ballet and flamenco.
The story
Told through the language of dance, this story follows a bride who runs away with her lover on her wedding day. The groom pursues the pair, turning a wedding into a conflict shaped by passionate, forbidden love. Ballet and flamenco carry the story’s ideas about love, death, sin, and punishment, as the dancers’ bodies express the emotional stakes through movement.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The human body uses the language of dance to tell the simple story of a doomed love. Far from being a casual means of communication, ballet carries with it a host of assumptions about love and death, sin and punishment. The story’s plot is simple: a bride runs away with her lover on her wedding day. The groom follows the two lovers, and a knife fight breaks out. The rivals stab each other, and the only wedding that takes place is the joining of their fates in death. A blood wedding. Beyond the extraordinary beauty of the dancers’ bodies expressing themselves to the rhythm of flamenco, the film goes further by exploring and examining these kinds of ideas about such a controversial subject as sinful love.
