Full plot (contains spoilers)
The film revolves around the consequences of the acceptance of a federal popular initiative launched by populist entrepreneur Jeannot Bachmann (played by Beat Schlatter), which makes French the sole official national language of Switzerland. Walter Egli (also played by Beat Schlatter) must travel to the canton of Ticino as a federal police officer, accompanied by another police officer (played by Vincent Kucholl), in order to dismantle an alleged resistance group. There, a romantic relationship with Francesca Gamboni (played by Catherine Pagani) draws Walter into the resistance. After the Gotthard Base Tunnel is blown up and the canton of Ticino declares independence, it turns out that Jeannot Bachmann manipulated the vote. Walter Egli, his colleague, and the resistance fighter try to expose this manipulation as war between Switzerland and Ticino seems imminent.
