The story

In 1977, high-school dropout Eddie Adams, living in Torrance, California, works as a dishwasher at a Reseda nightclub. There, he meets porn filmmaker Jack Horner, who takes an interest in Eddie's potential for the film industry. After a falling out with his abusive mother, Eddie moves into Jack's home in the San Fernando Valley. Adopting the stage name 'Dirk Diggler,' Eddie quickly becomes a star in the porn industry due to his looks and charisma. The film follows his rise during the disco era of the late 1970s and the subsequent transition into the 1980s.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In 1977, Eddie Adams (Dirk Diggler) becomes a porn star under the mentorship of Jack Horner. He enjoys a lavish lifestyle in the late 1970s, but the 1980s bring challenges. Drug use leads to physical and mental decline, and the industry shifts toward low-quality videotape. While Jack struggles with the transition to video and the loss of his friend Colonel James to legal issues, Dirk faces a decline in his career and personal life. Other characters face their own struggles: Amber Waves loses a custody battle, Buck Swope survives a robbery, and various others navigate the shifting landscape of the porn industry. By 1984, the characters find themselves in a new era, with some seeking redemption and others attempting to adapt to the changing cultural landscape.
