The story
Annie Walker, a struggling woman in Milwaukee, finds herself in a predicament when her best friend, Lillian, gets engaged. Annie is asked to serve as the maid of honor, but the task becomes complicated when she meets Lillian's other bridesmaids, including the wealthy and snobbish Helen Harris. The two women quickly become rivals, competing for Lillian's attention and affection. As the wedding preparations progress, Annie must navigate her own personal failures and the escalating tension with Helen, all while trying to remain a supportive friend in the face of mounting competition and personal insecurities.

Annie Walker is a struggling woman in Milwaukee whose bakery failed during the Great Recession. When her best friend Lillian gets engaged, Annie is asked to be the maid of honor. During the engagement party, Annie meets the other bridesmaids, including the wealthy Helen Harris. Annie and Helen immediately become rivals. After a series of mishaps—including a frantic bachelorette trip to Las Vegas where Annie has a breakdown and a subsequent fallout at a bridal shower—Annie is disinvited from the wedding. After a period of personal growth and a brief romance with a police officer, Annie reconciles with Helen and Lillian. The two women eventually become friends, and Annie successfully fulfills her role as maid of honor at the wedding.
