Full plot (contains spoilers)
Following the death of their father, Andy and his visually impaired sister Piper move in with Laura, who is caring for a mute boy named Oliver. Andy discovers that Laura is obsessed with her own deceased daughter, Cathy, and is performing rituals to bring her back. It is revealed that Oliver is actually a kidnapped child named Connor, possessed by a demon. Laura intends to use a ritual involving a VHS tape and a corpse to transfer Cathy's soul into Piper. After a series of escalating incidents, including Andy's hospitalization and the discovery of the truth about Oliver's identity, a confrontation occurs. Laura eventually attempts to sacrifice Piper in a pool. During the struggle, Connor (the possessed boy) takes on Andy's voice to lure Piper. Piper eventually escapes and is rescued by a car, while the demon leaves Connor's body and the police find Laura with Cathy's corpse.
